Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has scheduled an e-auction from its Central India based unit Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) for the sale of BF Coke (blast furnace grade of coke).
The company has put forward 10,000 MT BF grade coke in four lots with each carrying 2,500 MT of the material. The sale would be conducted on ‘As is where is’ and ‘No complaint’ basis by online forward auction, on 1 Jan’20.
The specific grade of coke having mean size in the range of 47-54 mm, would be auctioned on Ex-Bhilai Works price basis, where bidders have to quote their bids exclusive of all taxes, duties and levies as impressed by the government against each lot for lifting the quantity. The same would be valid for 30 days from the auction date for acceptance by SAIL.
Specification of BF Coke produced by SAIL-BSP
| Parameter | Indicative Value |
| M10 | 8.5 (max) |
| CSR | 62 (min) |
| CRI | 24 (max) |

The BF grade coke produced in BSP’s coke ovens is majorly utilized in operating its blast furnaces. However, with the recent slowdown in sales of its semi finished steel products, the company had gradually halted its manufacturing units lately, which in turn resulted in a build-up of coke inventories.
Market sources aware of the fact have reported that BSP has a current stock of around 70,000 MT BF coke, which has exceeded the company’s requirement for the material. Incidentally, the company is planning further rounds of auction in the near term to dispose the extra coke volume.
The company has highlighted that mode of dispatch would be Rail, for which the underlying freight amount would be paid as per the Railway receipt. The bidder would also have to deposit advance payment of 105% of the cost of material, taxes & duties and freight charges, if applicable before the loading & dispatch of the material.
