Indonesia’s president Joko Widodo reappointed Sri Mulyani Indrawati as the country’s finance minister in an apparent move to maintain economic policies prudent and achieve economic growth target of 6 percent this year.
“President asked me to remain the finance minister,” Sri Mulyani told press after meeting with President Joko Widodo at the State Palace today. “President asked me to disclose the position,” Sri Mulyani said. Sri Mulyani is among incumbent ministers that were summoned by Joko Widodo today. Yesterday, president Joko Widodo invited opposition leader Prabowo Subianto and asked the former general to become ‘defense minister’.
Sri Mulyani further stated that President has asked her to use all fiscal policies to maintain economic resilience and maintain coordination with industry and trade ministry in a move to develop a more sound economy.
Sri Mulyani is the only incumbent minister of President Joko Widodo that has been allowed by President Jokowi to announce her cabinet post.
The 58-year-old President Jokowi was sworn in for a second term on Sunday. Jokowi heads into his final five-year term in office, having pledged to boost economic growth, overhaul labor laws and spur investment at a time when trade tension between the US and China are hammering demand.
Jokowi wants to boost the size of Indonesia’s economy to USD 7 trillion by 2045 from USD 1 trillion now and lift per capita income to 320 million by then.
President Joko Widodo is expected to officially announce the cabinet lineup tomorrow and swear in minister to help him in the next five-year term.
