Thailand’s Finish Long Steel import surged, while Flat Steel imports has narrowed down in Aug’19, as per the custom data maintained with SteelMint.
Ferrous Scrap- Thailand’s ferrous scrap import is registered at 0.11 MnT in Aug’19, enlarged by 83.33% against 0.06 MnT in Jul’19.
However on yearly basis imports plunged by 38.8% in Aug’19 as against 0.18 MnT in Aug’18.
Semi Finish- Nation’s semi finish (Billet/Pig iron) import on monthly basis is registered at 0.35 MnT in Aug’19, down by 28.57% as compared to 0.49 MnT in Jul’19. Also on yearly premises import down by 20.45% in Aug’19 compared to 0.44 MnT in Aug’18.
Finish Long Steel- The country’s finish long steel import is registered at 0.1 MnT in Aug’19, moved up by 11.11% M-o-M & Y-o-Y as against 0.09 MnT in Jul’19 & Aug’18.
Further slight surge in Finish Long Steel imports can be observe, due to upcoming projects like orange line project & high speed railway linking three airports could be considered. However one of the project is approved by public private partnership (PPP) investment committee setup by previous government and its been considering to adjust to get maximize benefits, said by Transport Ministry.
Commodity wise- Rebar imports registered at 0.08 MnT up 14.28% in Aug’19 against 0.07 MnT in Jul’19, followed by Structure (Angle/Channel) is 0.01 MnT in Aug’19 stable against previous month and Wire rod import is recorded at 0.01 MnT in Aug’19 (-50%) against 0.02 MnT in Jul’19.
Load Country wise- Japan and Malaysia stood as top exporter of finish long steel to the Thailand and recorded at 0.03 MnT in Aug’19 in which Japanese exports remain stable with 0.03 MnT in Jul’19. While, Malaysia’s export enlarged by 200% against 0.01 MnT in Jul’19 followed by China at 0.01 MnT in Aug’19 (-50%) as compared to 0.02 MnT in Jul’19.
Finish Flat Steel- Thailand’s Finish Flat Steel imports declined by 7% to 0.79 MnT in Aug’19 as against 0.85 MnT in Jul’19. In line, yearly premises it declined by 8.13% in Aug’19 against 0.86 MnT in Aug’18.
The impact of prolonged US-China trade friction has weakened the demand for steel in the global market as well as in Thailand’s major domestic steel-consuming sectors like automobiles and consumer durable goods. Thus lower downstream demand in-turn led to a decline in the imports of finished flat steel in Thailand in Aug’19.
Graphite Electrode- On monthly basis country’s import of Graphite electrode is registered at 764 MT in Aug’19 down by 28% against 1,061 MT in Jul’19. In line, yearly basis imports drifted down by 43.9% in Aug’19 against 1,362 MT in Aug’18.
