Odisha contributes entirely towards Indian Chrome Ore production. Dispatches of Chrome Ore by Odisha miners have sunk down by almost 43% in Aug’19 against Jul’19. OMC remained the largest miner to dispatch 57,782 MT of Chrome Ore in Aug’19 which is 10% lower than the previous month. Jindal Stainless, FACOR, Shyam Metalics & Energy, and Rohit Ferro Tech were the major buyers for OMC Chrome Ore in Aug’19, with Jindal being the largest buyer procured 30% of the total dispatches by OMC.
TATA Steel was the second-largest miner to dispatch chrome ore in Aug’19, out of which 20% was held for captive use. TATA Steel recorded a significant fall in total dispatches of Chrome Ore by 60% with a total quantity of dispatch as 52,497MT in Aug’19. Jindal Stainless and TS Alloys were the two major companies to buy Chrome Ore from TATA Steel. Jindal Stainless accounted for 26% of the total OMC Chrome ore dispatches with 17,485MT quantity.
Dispatches of IMFA decreased significantly from 46,848MT in Jul’19 to 15,120MT in Aug’19 registering a fall of 68%. In comparison with other miners, Dispatches from Balasore Alloys showed a lesser downfall of 29% with 11,883MT quantity. On the Contrary, Misirlall Mines showed a marginal increase in the dispatches in August and particularly their captive use was increased significantly.
SteelMint assessed that the decline in dispatches was a result of the logistics issue in the Sukinda region as the truck association went on a strike against the directive, from 13 August; that trucks with only working GPS are to be allowed to load material. Thus, dispatches have been hugely affected in the Jajpur area. The dispatches remained affected in the first half of the month as the number of vehicles reduced, but during the second half, the dispatches diminished.
