Coal India Ltd has witnessed an 8% fall in coal dispatch to power sector during Aug’19, thereby attaining its lowest total since Sep’17.
Data provided by Coal Ministry indicates that coal dispatch to power sector stood 33.8 MnT in Aug’19 as against 36.9 MnT in Aug’18. Coal supplies have receded on the monthly basis since Apr’19, while the condition was worsened by inclement weather in recent times.
Notably, CIL has notified that due to excessive rainfall during the month of Aug’19, coal production was affected in WCL, ECL, BCCL, SECL and MCL.
As a matter of fact, barring NCL, ECL and CCL, all the other subsidiaries of CIL had posted a y-o-y fall in coal production in Aug’19, which can also be said regarding the performance concerned with coal dispatches.
During the first 5 months of FY20 (Apr-Aug’19), CIL’s total coal dispatch for power sector was recorded at 190.4 MnT, down 4% Y-o-Y from 199.1 MnT noted in the year-ago period.
SCCL Coal Dispatch:
Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) had also recorded lower coal deliveries for power sector during Aug’19. SCCL’s dispatch to power sector fell 3% Y-o-Y to 3.5 MnT in Aug’19, compared with 3.6 MnT in Aug’18.
However, overall dispatch for power sector in the 5-month period of FY20 (Apr-Aug’19) were marked 3% higher on the year at 21.9 MnT compared with 21.2 MnT noted in Apr-Aug’18 period.
