Thailand Steel Import Data Q2 CY’19

Thailand Ferrous Scrap & Finished Steel imports rally Q-o-Q in Q2 CY’19, as per recent release custom data.

Ferrous scrap imports up 19% in Q2 CY’19- On quarterly basis ferrous scrap imports surged around 19% to 0.25 MnT in Q2 CY’19 against 0.21 MnT in Q1 CY’19.

Also, on monthly and yearly basis imports surged by 44.4% to 0.13 MnT in Jun’19 as compare to 0.09 MnT in previous month & year i.e. May’19 and Jun’18, respectively.

Semi-finish import move down in Q2 CY’19- On quarterly basis Thailand imports of semi finish (Billet and Pig Iron) have moved down by 7.27% to 1.02 MnT in Q2 CY’19 as against 1.1 MnT in Q1 CY’19.

However on monthly basis, import increased by 16.21% to 0.43 MnT in Jun’19 against 0.37 MnT in May’19 and on yearly premises import enlarged by 153% when compare to 0.17 MnT in June’18.

Finish Long Steel Import- Thailand Finish long steel import registered at 0.25 MnT in Q2 CY’19 surged by 8.69% against 0.23 MnT in Q1 CY’19.

However on monthly premises import declined 11.11% to 0.08 MnT in Jun’19 against 0.09 MnT in May’19, whereas on yearly basis import increased by 14.28% compare to 0.07 MnT in June’18.

Commodity wise – On Q-o-Q basis country’s rebar import stood at 0.19 MnT in Q2 CY’19 surged by 18.75% against 0.16 MnT in Q1 CY’19, followed by wire rod at 0.06 MnT in Q2 CY’19 up 20% against 0.05 MnT in Q1 CY’19 and Structure (Angle & Channel) imports drifted up by 100% to 0.02 MnT in Q2 CY’19 as compare to 0.01 MnT in Q1 CY’19.

Country Wise – Thailand’s import from Japan registered at 0.08 MnT in Q2 CY’19 down by 11.11% against 0.09 MnT in Q1 CY’19, followed by China with 0.04 MnT in Q2 CY’19, unchanged as against Q1 CY’19 and Malaysia 0.04 MnT in Q2 CY’19 sharp hike by 100% as against 0.02 MnT in Q1 CY’19.

Thailand Finish Flat Steel Import Increases by 25% in Q2 CY’19- Thailand’s finish flat steel imports surged by a quarter in Q2CY’19 to 2.52 MnT as against 2.01 MnT in the Q1CY’19.

Thailand majorly imported finish flat steel products form Japan, China and South Korea in Q2CY’19. However, trade diversion from these nations amid imposition of trade tariffs from USA led to a surge in Thailand’s import volumes. Meanwhile increased investments by government in infrastructure, real estate, automobile and machinery sectors led to increased demand during during the quarter. These factors collectively attribute to increase in nation’s imports in Q2CY’19.

Meanwhile on monthly premise nation’s finish flat imports inched down by 2% to 0.87 MnT in Jun’19 as against 0.89 MnT in May’19.

However on yearly basis the same ascended by 18% in Jun’19 in comparison to 0.74 MnT in preceding month.

Country-wise Thailand finish flat steel imports in Q2CY’19- Thailand’s imports from Japan marginally increased by 3% in Q2CY’19 to 1 MnT which was 0.97 MnT in previous quarter.

Meanwhile imports from China jumped to 0.75 MnT in Q2CY’19 over 0.48 MnT in preceding quarter.

However nation’s imports from South Korea grew by 19% Q-o-Q to 0.43 MnT in Q2 over 0.36 MnT in Q1.

Other nations also exported flat steel to Thailand were Taiwan, Vietnam, Ukraine and Australia during Q2CY’19.

Graphite Electrode import by Thailand Q-o-Q basis rise in second quarter by 51.4% to 2,368 MT in Q2 CY’19 against 1,564 MT in Q1 CY’19.

Similarly on monthly basis, imports grew by 52.12% to 1,001 MT in Jun’19 in comparison with 658 MT in May’19 and on yearly basis imports moved up by 8.9% against 919 MT in Jun’18.
