India: Finish Long Steel Imports Up 25% in H1 2019

India finish long steel imports increased by 25% in H1 CY19, as per recent data released by customs.

India imported about 279,960 MT long steel in H1 CY19, up by 25% in comparison with 223,568 MT in H2 CY18.

Also on monthly basis imports moved up by 9% and reached around 4 years high with 56,441 MT volumes in Jun’19 as against 42,216 MT in Jun’18. Prior to this the highest volume of import was recorded in Nov’15.

Under Finish Long commodities following HS Codes have been considered – Bar & Rod (HS Code 7213 & 7214), MS Wire (HS Code7217) along with Angle & Shapes (HS Code 7215 & 7216).

Commodity Wise – Rebar imports were registered at 166,736 MT in H1’CY19 higher by 52% against 109,656 MT in H2 CY18 followed by wire rod at 74,298 MT in H1 CY19 slightly down by 8% against 80,657 MT in H2 CY18.

Structure (Angle & shapes) 38,925 MT in H1’CY19 which has been drifted up by 17% against 33,253 MT in H2’CY18.

Country Wise – India’s major finish long steel imports in H1 CY19 were registered from Singapore – 68,635 MT (+50%) followed by South Korea – 59,134 MT which has been increased by 85% against 31,957 MT in H2 CY18 and China – 39,196 MT (-26%) in H1 CY19 as against 52,765 MT in H2 CY18.

Unload Port – The major imports of finish long steel products observed in Kattupalli port with 66,121 MT in H1 CY19, sharp hike by 88% against 35,160 MT in H2 CY18 followed by JNPT – 56,424 MT in H1 CY19 declined by 19% against 69,534 MT in H2 CY18 and third major imports registered in Chennai 50,604 MT moved down by 13% against 58,406 MT in H2 CY18.
