Singareni Collieries Company Ltd is planning to produce 10 MnT of coal from its Naini coal mines located in Odisha. The mine has an extractable reserve of 340 MnT.
SCCL Chairman N Shridhar had recently met Odisha CM Naveen patnaik and Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad regarding the prospect of beginning coal production and sought requisite permissions (forest clearance, land clearance, rehabilitation and railway lines) for the mines.
It was later decided that the coal production in the mine would commence by 2021, after getting nod from the Odisha government and retrieving all the necessary clearances.
It is pertaining to note that the Ministry of Coal, had earlier allocated Naini Coal Block in Talcher coalfield (Odisha) jointly to Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd., (GMDC) of Govt. of Gujarat and Pondicherry Industrial Promotion Development & Investment Corporation Ltd., (PIPDICL) of Govt. of Puducherry.
To develop the mine, both the firms had incorporated a joint venture company under the name of “Naini Coal Company Limited (NCCL)” with 50:50 equity shares.
However, allocation of the coal block was withdrawn from Naini Coal Company Ltd, and the same was allotted to SCCL on Aug’15. Notably, the ministry had allocated the coal mine to SCCL for use in its Singareni power plant, located in Telangana
