USA Steel Import Statistics in May’19

USA Iron Ore Import upsurges M-o-M in May’19- USA iron ore import boosted up to 0.78 MnT in May’19 MnT as against 0.36 MnT in Apr’19.

Nation’s imports spiked up from Brazil amid easing concerns form largest iron ore miner Vale which had resumed operations at its Brucutu mines in June’19.

On yearly basis, imports spiked in May’19 as compared to 0.25 MnT in May’18.

During first five months (Jan-May) CY’19 nation’s iron ore imports upsurged by 33% and stood at 2.54 MnT as compared to 1.91 MnT in (Jan-May) CY’18.

Country-wise USA iron ore imports in May’19- Brazil stood as the largest exporter to United States in May’19 at 0.41 MnT; spiked up as against 0.07 MnT in Apr’19.

Imports from Canada witnessed at 0.21 MnT in May’19 against 0.2 MnT a month ago, followed by Sweden at 0.1 MnT.

USA pig iron imports decline by 39% M-o-M in May’19- Nation’s pig iron imports plummeted by 39% to 0.40 MnT in May’19 as compared to 0.66 MnT in preceding month.

Meanwhile, on yearly premise the same plunged by 37% in May’19 as compared to 0.63 MnT in corresponding month of previous year.

During first five months (Jan-May) CY’19 nation’s pig iron registered an increase by 3% to 2.43 MnT which was 2.36 MnT in same time frame previous year.

Country-wise USA pig iron imports in May’19- Nation’s pig iron imports from Russia substantially decreased to 0.09 MnT in May’19 as compared to 0.44 MnT in previous month.

Following this nation’s import from Brazil was accounted for 0.16 MnT and Ukraine stood at 0.14 MnT in May’19.

USA billet imports halved on monthly basis in May’19- Nation’s billet imports stood at 0.27 MnT in May’19; slashed by 51% in comparison with 0.55 MnT in preceding month.

Whereas on yearly basis the same declined by 10% in May’19 with respect to 0.30 MnT in May’18.

During first four months (Jan-Apr) CY’19 nation’s billet import inched down by 1% and stood at 2.17 MnT as against 2.19 MnT in same time frame of previous year.

Country-wise USA billet imports in May’19- Brazil stood as a major exporter to USA and accounted for 0.21 MnT in May’19; halved against 0.43 MnT a month earlier.

Following this imports from Russia was recorded at 0.02 MnT while Mexico at 0.04 MnT in May’19.

USA scrap imports stable M-o-M in May’19- USA imported 0.37 MnT of ferrous scrap in May’19; stable against Apr’19.

On an yearly premise, imports from USA slumped by 35% Y-o-Y as against 0.57 MnT in May’18. Stability in domestic finished steel market could have supported scrap imports in the country.

Country-wise USA scrap imports in May’19- Canada being major scrap exporter to USA accounted for 0.24 MnT in May’19, dropping by 4% M-o-M against 0.25 MnT recorded in Apr’19.

Followed by other prominent suppliers Mexico at 0.04 MnT and Sweden at 0.03 MnT in May’19

USA finish long imports M-o-M up by 9% in May’19- Nation’s finish long imports climbed up by 9% to 0.35 MnT in May’19 which was 0.32 MnT in the preceding month.

Whereas on yearly premise the same plunged by 20% in May’19 as against 0.44 MnT in same month of previous year.

During first five months (Jan-May) CY’19 nations finish long imports stood at 1.56 MnT declined by 14% in comparison to 1.82 MnT in (Jan-May) CY’18.

Country-wise USA finish long imports in May’19- USA’s Finish long steel imports from Mexico accounted for 0.05 MnT unchanged over Apr’19.

Following this USA imported 0.04 MnT from Canada and Italy accounted for 0.02 MnT in Apr’19.

Meanwhile USA also imported finish long steel from Spain, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Brazil in May’19.

USA flat steel exports fall by 9% M-o-M in May’19- Nation’s flat steel imports fell by 9% in May’19 to 1.2 MnT as compared to 1.32 MnT in previous month.

Imposition of trade tariffs by USA under Trump administration in CY’18 prevented arrival of cheaper imports and provided advantage to domestic steelmakers to ramp up their steel capacities in May’19. However as per market reports, low demand from automobile sector during the month can also be attributed for decline in USA flat steel imports in May’19.

Meanwhile on yearly premise the same got slashed by 25% in May’19 over 1.6 MnT in May’18.

During first five months (Jan-May) CY’19 nation’s imports accounted for 6.48 MnT plunged by 21% in comparison with 8.19 MnT in equivalent period in CY’18.

Country-wise USA flat steel imports in May’19- Nation’s flat steel imports from Canada remain unchanged for second successive month at 0.26 in May’19.

Meanwhile USA’s flat steel imports from South Korea recorded at 0.22 MnT and Mexico at 0.11 MnT in May’19.

USA also imported flat steel from Germany, Taiwan, Japan and Vietnam in smaller quantities in May’19.

USA ferro alloys import rise by 33% M-o-M in May’19- Imports of Ferro Alloys upsurged by 33% to 0.08 MnT in the month of May’19 as compared to 0.06 MnT in previous month.

Whereas on yearly premise nation’s imports fell marginally by 11% in May’19 as against 0.09 MnT in May’18.

Country-wise USA ferro alloys imports in May’19- Austria had a major share in USA’s ferro alloys imports and accounted for 0.02 MnT in May’19 which was nil a month earlier.

Meanwhile nation’s imports from Norway remained stable M-o-M at 0.01 MnT in May’19. Following this USA also imported ferro alloys from South Africa, Georgia and Malaysia in smaller quantities in May’19.
