Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), the Indian coal producer operating its mines in Telangana, has reported 17% increase in coal production during the first quarter of FY20 over the year-ago quarter period.
SCCL’s coal output in Q1 FY20 totaled 17.08 MnT, up against 14.57 MnT in Q1 FY19.
The coal company has reported a progressive increase in coal output y-o-y during each of the first three months of FY20, thereby attaining its production target of 16.57 set for the period.
SCCL’s coal production in Jun’19 grew 15% on the year to 5.71 MnT compared with 4.96 MnT in Jun’18, but had come down 3% on the month from 5.87 MnT in May’19. However, the company had managed a slight uptick in daily average coal output, which was marked 0.19 MnT/day in Jun’19 as against 0.189/day in May’19.
In terms of coal supplies, SCCL’s dispatch of 16.84 MnT in Q1 FY20 had slightly fell on the year from 16.88 MnT in Q1 FY19 period, despite achieving its set target of 15.91 MnT.
The decline could be attributed to the drop in coal intake via Road mode made from the customers. As per the data provided by SCCL, coal dispatch via Road mode of transportation had decreased 32% Y-o-Y to 2.71 MnT in Q1 FY20. Dispatch made via Rail mode increased 12% Y-o-Y to 11.98 MnT during the period.
Coal dispatch during the month of Jun’19 was recorded at 5.52 MnT, up 5% Y-o-Y from 5.27 MnT in Jun’18, but down 4% M-o-M from 5.76 MnT in May’19.
Area-wise Coal Production in Jun’19:
Of the total monthly output in Jun’19, 0.68 MnT coal was procured from the Underground coal projects, while the remaining 5.03 MnT coal was produced from the open cast mining projects.
Highest coal production was noted from Kothagudem area with output of 1.11 MnT in Jun’19, followed by Manuguru, Ramgundam-II, Ramgundam-III and Yellandu. Notably, 5 out of 11 mining areas of SCCL had missed their month production target for Jun’19.

Coal Supply to Power Plants:
SCCL’s coal supply to its Singareni power plant fell by 5% M-o-M to 0.536 MnT in Jun’19 as against 0.56 MnT in May’19. Besides, coal supplied to NTPC power plants had dropped 22% M-o-M to 0.852 MnT during the month.
SCCL has committed to supply 8 MnT coal to power generation plants of NTPC during FY20, as per the MOU signed between the two companies. The coal company has supplied 3 MnT coal to NTPC during the first three month period of FY20.
