Canada iron ore exports down 9% in Apr’19

Canadian iron ore exports recorded at 3.44 MnT, down 9% as against 3.79 MnT in Mar’19. On yearly basis, exports increased 7% as compared to 3.23 MnT in Apr’18.

Japan stood largest importer of Canadian iron ore at 0.68 MnT , down 19% on monthly basis against 0.84 MnT a month ago. China stood second largest importer at 0.5 MnT, up M-o-M followed by France at 0.38 MnT. Canadian exports to China picked up amidst rising global prices and high demand from Chinese mills amid global supply crisis.

Canadian Ferrous scrap exports decline 23% in Apr’19

Canada scrap exports showed considerable fall in Apr’19. It exported 284,655 MT ferrous scrap in Apr’19, falling by 23 % M-o-M as against 371,511 MT in Mar’19. On yearly premises, scrap exports decreased by 39% Y-o-Y as against 444,163 MT ferrous scrap recorded in Apr’18.

USA remained the largest importer with 84% share in total Canada scrap exports, as it exported 241,343 MT in Apr’19 as against 278,092 MT in Mar’19, observing a drop of 45% M-o-M. Other top scrap importers were India (13,742MT, up 70% M-o-M) and Taiwan (9,981 MT, down 18% M-o-M) with 5%, and 4% share respectively. While Turkey, another major importer observed nil import volume in Apr’19 which had imported 52,000 MT of scrap from Canada in Mar’19.

Canada coal exports down 35% in Apr’19

Canadian coal exports have dropped 35% on the month, following a hefty decline in coal intake from Japan during Apr’19.

Data provided by customs indicate that Canadian export was marked 2.53 MnT in Apr’19 compared with 3.91 MnT in Mar’19, but were 7% higher on the year from 2.36 MnT in Apr’18.

Coal imports from Japan had come down 75% M-o-M to 0.24 MnT in Apr’19; consequently, India with 0.71 MnT coal emerged as the largest importer during the month.
