South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), the largest coal producing subsidiary of CIL, has garnered 66% premium over reserved price, while recording an all out sale in the recently concluded spot e-auction for Jun’19.
The company had offered 370,000 MT non-coking coal in Jun’19 auction which was concluded on 11 Jun’19.
SECL has now concluded spot e-auction for the second consecutive month in Jun’19, after failing to schedule an e-auction during Feb’19-Apr’19 period.
The previous e-auction in May’19 witnessed sales of only one-third of total coal volume being offered. However, in this term all the coal volume put up for sale, was sold at an average bidding price of INR 1851.79/MT against reserve price of INR 1115.69/MT.
Coal ranging from G5 to G17 was offered in 9 lots from various coal mines.
Highest bid price of INR 4266.58 was recorded for G5 grade of coal offered from Rajgamar, wherein the reserve price was fixed at INR 3285/MT. In terms of highest premium over the reserve price, sale of G17 grade of coal from Gare Palema IV/1, was traded at an average price of INR 1482.71/MT against reserve price of INR 644/MT.
Apart from coal sale in Rajgamar, Balrampur and Damini, all the other coal mines had fetched a premium in excess of 65% over the respective reserve price.

Major Coal Receivers:
Power utilities had taken 190,100 MT coal, accounting to more than half of the total volume being offered in the auction. Traders with 133,750 MT were the second-largest coal receivers, followed by Sponge Iron manufacturers which had taken 21,400 MT.
Among the individual bidders, Jindal Power was the largest coal receiver in the auction. The company had purchased 90,000 MT coal, while opting for lower grades viz. G15, G16 and G17.
Lanco Amarkantak Power, SKS Power, MB Power and DB Power were among the other major coal receivers. Altogether these top 5 companies had taken 51% of the total coal volume.
