According to latest data release by World Steel Association (WSA), crude steel production of 66 steel manufacturing countries was reported at 1788.69 MnT in (Jan-Dec) CY’18, increased by 6% in comparison with 1691.20 MnT in CY’17.
Listed below are the world’s top steel producing companies as per data released by WSA.
1. Arcelor Mittal- World’s leading integrated steel making company- Arcelor Mittal continues to maintain its position and remained the top steel maker producing 96.42 MnT in CY’18 compared to 97.03 MnT in previous year.
2. China Baowu Group- China Baowu Steel Group Corporation (Baowu Group), established through the consolidation and restructuring of former Baosteel Group Corporation and Wuhan Iron & Steel (Group) Corporation. The company stood 2nd in the list producing 67.43 MnT in CY’18, up 3% Y-o-Y as compared to 65.39 MnT in preceding year.
3. Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC)- Japan based steel making company stood 3rd in the list and stood at 49.22 MnT in CY’18 up by 4% Y-o-Y against 47.36 MnT in previous year.
4. HBIS Group- China based steel making company recorded tonnage of 46.80 MnT in CY’18 over 45.56 MnT in last year.
5. POSCO- South Korean steel making company – POSCO achieved tonnage of 42.86 MnT in CY’18 up by 2% Y-o-Y basis against 42.19 MnT in previous year.
6. Shagang Group- China’s Shagang Group recorded tonnage of 40.66 MnT in CY1’8 increased by 6% Y-o-Y basis compared to 38.35 MnT in previous year.
7. Ansteel Group- China’s Ansteel Group stood in 7th position. The company was formed from merger of Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corporation & Pangang group Co. The company achieved tonnage of 37.36 MnT in CY’18 up by 4% Y-o-Y basis compared to 35.76 MnT in previous year.
8. JFE Steel Corporation- Japanese steel making company- JFE Steel reported tonnage of 29.15 MnT in CY’18, fell by 3% Y-o-Y basis compared to 30.15 MnT in CY’17.
9. Jianlong Group- The largest private-owned enterprise in Tangshan, Hebei province; Jianlong Group produced 27.88 MnT of steel in CY’18 which was 20.26 MnT in preceding year.
10. Shougang Group- China’s state-owned company, Shougang Group stood at 10th position in the list churning out 27.34 MnT of steel in CY’18, down 1% Y-o-Y against 27.63 MnT in previous year.
Indian steel companies also topped the list- The Indian multinational steel making company, Tata Steel produced 27.27 MnT in CY’18. Meanwhile JSW Steel stood at 18th position with tonnage of 16.83 MnT in CY’18 up by 5% Y-o-Y basis against 16.06 MnT in previous year.
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) stood at 20th position in the list recording tonnage of 15.93 MnT in CY’18, up 8% Y-o-Y against 14.8 MnT in CY’17.
