SECL Yearly Coal Output

South Eastern Coalfields Set Target of 170 MnT Coal Output in FY20

South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), the largest coal producing subsidiary of CIL, has set  production target of 170 MnT in FY20, which is 10 MnT more than previous fiscal’s target.

Scripting history, the coal company had become the first in the country to attain 150 MnT coal output in FY19. However, the total output of 157.34 MnT was still a tad lower than its target of 160 MnT set for the period.

The slight fall from the targeted value had resulted specifically from a lower output from SECL’s underground coal projects.

It is pertinent to note that SECL’s coal mining fields has been broadly classified into two groups namely- Korba Coalfields and Central India Coalfields (CIC), comprising of a total of 13 mining areas. Out of these, 7 mining areas are having both underground and open cast mines.

To achieve the set target for FY20, SECL has assigned individual output for all its mining areas. Accordingly, Korba coalfields comprising of Gevra, Dipka, Kusmunda, Korba and Raigarh have been fixed 143.56 MnT coal output for FY20.

While the remaining 26.45 MnT coal is to be procured from Central India Coalfields which consist of Baikunthpur, Bishrampur, Bhatgaon, Johilla, Hasdeo, Sohagpur, Jamuna Kotma and Chirimiri mining areas.

In terms of individual targets for FY20, highest coal production have been allocated to Gevra, Kusmunda and Dipka area marked at 45 MnT, 41.65 MnT and 35 MnT respectively.

Last year, coal output of 1 MnT was fixed for this project, however as a result of local protest and certain operational issues, coal mining at Saraipali was delayed.
