Wada- which is one of the major industrial hub in Maharashtra based in western India, the steel industries have recently received notice from Maharashtra Pollution Control Board regarding operating in Pollution Prevention area.
As per conversation of SteelMint with industry sources, close to 80% steel industries are based near to Tansa Valley which under Wada – Tahsil, district is Palghar (Maharashtra).
On an average, there are close to 15 mid sized steel plants who have total daily production of more than 3,000 MT and produce steel which is mostly sold in local market.
In notice it is mentioned that “Hon’ble National Green Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi has issued order on 27 Feb’19 in original application no. 105/2015 and directed all concerned authorities to immediately take action to completely stop operation of all the brick kilns, stone quarrying, stone crushing units and polluting industries in Tansa valley falling within 10 km distance from the boundary of Tansa Wildlife Santuary.
Now therefore hereby directed to show cause, why operations of industry shall not be suspended/stopped? Under provisions of u/s. 33A of Water (P&CP) Act, 1974 and u/s 31A of Air (P/CP) Act, 1981 and by considering order issued by Hon’ble National Green Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi on 27th Feb 2019 in original application no. 105/2018. The industries are directed to submit reply of notice within 7 days failing which Board will have no option than to initiate further stringent legal action including closure/suspension of production activity”.
As per mills owners, presently the plants are operational in the Wada region and in coming week they may apply for a granting stay to the received order.
