Canada iron ore exports down marginally in Feb’19:
Trade statistics released by Canada custom shows that the iron ore exports by the country recorded at 3.2 MnT in Feb’19. The exports increased slightly as compared to 3.19 MnT in Jan’19. On yearly premises, exports dropped 16% compared to 3.81 MnT in Feb’18. For Jan-Feb’19, exports dropped to 6.4 MnT compared to 6.3 MnT for same period last year.
China continued to be largest importer of Canadian iron ore at 0.86 MnT for Feb’19, up 65% as against 0.52 MnT in Jan’19. Japan stood second largest importer at 0.32 MnT followed by France and Spain at 0.31 MnT each.
Canadian ferrous scrap exports hit 1 year low in Feb’19
Canada exported 293,010 MT ferrous scrap in Feb’19, down by 11% M-o-M against 328,207 MT in Jan’19. As per customs data maintained with SteelMint, ferrous scrap exports from Canada recorded last 12 months low as against 258,544 MT in Feb’18 thus, observing a rise of 13% on yearly premises in Feb’19.
USA remained the largest scrap importer occupying highest 72% share of the total scrap exports from Canada in Feb’19. USA imported 210,846 MT ferrous scrap in Feb’19, down 15% M-o-M. Turkey, the second largest importer recorded 50,623 MT imports in Feb’19 after witnessing nil volume successively for earlier 3 months. Followed by other top importers were India, Bangladesh and Taiwan importing 9325 MT, 8703 MT and 4,155 MT respectively in Feb‘19.
Canadian coal exports have dropped 17% on the month, following a drastic fall in coal intake from India.
Data provided by Canadian customs indicates that exports had decreased to 2.13 MnT in Feb’19 as against 2.58 MnT in Jan’19, which was also 20% lower on the year from 2.65 MnT in Feb’18.
Canada’s major coal importers-Japan and South Korea, both had posted noticeable rise on the monthly basis, but it was still not enough to overcome the slump in coal shipments that were recorded to India in Feb’19. Notably, Indian coal import from Canada had fell 78% M-o-M to 0.1 MnT in Feb’19 as against 0.45 MnT in Jan’19.
