USA Iron Ore imports down by 35% M-o-M in Feb’19- United States iron ore imports recorded at 0.39 MnT in Feb’19, down by 35% as compared to 0.60 MnT in Jan’19.
On yearly basis, imports increased to almost twice as against 0.20 MnT in Feb’18.
During first two months (Jan-Feb’19) CY’19, iron ore imports witnessed increase by 19% to 0.99 MnT as against 0.83 MnT in Jan-Feb CY’18.
Country-wise USA iron ore imports in Feb’19- Canada stood the largest exporter to US for the month of Feb’18 at 0.21 MnT. Remaining exports done by Brazil at 0.17 MnT, down 55% M-o-M.
USA pig iron imports plunge by 53% M-o-M in Feb’19- United States has imported about 0.29 MnT Pig iron in Feb’19, registered a plunge by 53% M-o-M against 0.61 MnT in Jan’19.
On yearly basis, nation’s Pig iron imports fall by 29% as against 0.41 MnT in Feb’18.
During first two months (Jan-Feb) CY’19, the nation has imported about 0.9 MnT pig iron; unchanged for the same time frame of preceding year.
Country-wise USA Pig Iron imports in Feb’19- Russia has exported approximately 0.14 MnT of Pig Iron to the nation in Feb’19.
Other major pig iron exporting nations were Ukraine and Brazil which exported about 0.07 MnT and 0.08 MnT respectively in Feb’19.
USA Billet imports rise by 2% M-o-M Feb’19- Nation’s Billet imports inched up by 2% and stood at 0.46 MnT in Feb’19 in comparison to 0.45 MnT in Jan’19.
On yearly basis the nation’s imports spiked by 48% in Feb’19 against 0.31 MnT in Feb’18.
During first two months (Jan-Feb) CY’19 billet imports by the nation significantly increased by 31% and recorded at 0.92 MnT as against 0.7 MnT in (Jan-Feb) CY’18.
Country-wise USA billet imports in Feb’19- Brazil has exported approximately 0.36 MnT of billets to USA in Feb’19, up by 9% against 0.33 MnT in Jan’19.
Inline billet imports from Russia accounted for 0.08 MnT and from Mexico was 0.03 MnT in Feb’19.
USA scrap imports fall 28% in Feb‘19- As per customs data released, ferrous scrap imports from USA witnessed a noticeable drop of 28 % M-o-M in Feb’19, after it imported 0.33 MnT as against 0.46 MnT in Jan’19.
This is the lowest scrap import by US in over 10 months and prior to this, a lower import volume was observed in Apr’18 when it stood at 0.33 MnT.
On yearly premises, the scrap import have risen by 14% in Feb’19 as compared to 0.29 MnT in Feb ‘18.
Country-wise USA scrap imports in Feb’19- Canada remained the largest supplier to USA and accounted for 0.22 MnT in Feb’19 observing a drop of 12% M-o-M against 0.25 MnT in Jan’19.
Other major suppliers were Mexico 0.05 MnT while Sweden and Netherlands exported 0.03 MnT of scrap to USA in Feb’19.
USA Long steel imports down by 31% M-o-M in Feb’19- USA Finish long steel imports registered at 0.25 MnT in Feb’19, declined by 31% against 0.36 MnT in Jan’19.
On yearly premises, the same declined by 14% against 0.29 MnT in Feb’18.
Import volumes gradually declined amid imposition of trade tariffs under Trump administration by 25% on steel products. Trade tariffs have been imposed to curb imports and protect the interest of domestic steelmakers in USA.
Commodity-wise Rebar imports were registered at 0.16 MnT in Feb’19 (-36%), followed by Structure at 0.05 MnT in Feb’19 & Wire rod stood at 0.04 MnT unchanged on a monthly basis.
Country-wise USA Finish Long imports in Feb’19- USA’s Finish long steel imports from Italy accounted for 0.04 MnT followed by Canada and Mexico at 0.03 MnT each in Feb’19.
USA flat steel imports drop by 31% in Feb’19- The nation’s flat steel imports stood at 1.11 MnT in Feb’19, plunged by 31% in comparison to 1.61 MnT from the previous month.
As per market reports in the month of Feb’19, USA steel industry has significantly increased its capacity utilisation by around 80% after the imposition of Section 232 trade tariffs. Thus increased capacity and sufficient inventories lead to decline in nation’s imports volumes in Feb’19.
Meanwhile on yearly premises USA’s flat steel imports declined by 17% in Feb’19 which was 1.34 MnT in the same month previous year.
During first two months (Jan-Feb)’19 the nation’s flat steel imports moved down by 8% to 2.72 MnT as compared to 2.95 MnT in the same time frame of previous year.
Country-wise USA flat steel imports in Feb’19- USA majorly imports from Canada and stood at 0.28 MnT in Feb’19, tumbled 15% from 0.33 MnT in Jan’19.
Following this USA imported flat steel from South Korea 0.14 MnT, Mexico 0.11, Germany 0.05 and Taiwan 0.06 MnT in Feb’19.
Meanwhile Japan, Vietnam, Brazil and Turkey also exported flat steel products to USA in smaller quantities in Feb’19.
Ferro Alloys imports rises substantially M-o-M in Feb’19- USA imports Ferro Alloys in the two product forms Ferro Manganese and Silico Manganese.
Ferro Manganese and Silico Manganese imports doubled in Feb’19 to 0.04 MnT each as against imports in Jan’19.
The rise in imports can be attributed to the increased capacity of stainless steel in United States during the month.
On yearly premises USA’s Ferro Manganese imports surged by 33% as compared to previous year from 0.03 MnT in Feb’18 to 0.04 MnT in Feb’19.
Meanwhile on yearly basis Silico Manganese imports spiked to 0.04 MnT in Feb’19 which was 0.01 MnT in Feb’18.
During first two month (Jan-Feb) CY’19 Ferro Manganese imports were 0.06 MnT, declined by 25% against 0.08 MnT in same time frame of previous year.
While in (Jan-Feb) CY’19 Silico Manganese imports stood at 0.06 MnT, increased by 20% in comparison to 0.05 MnT in (Jan-Feb) CY’18.
Australia and Malaysia were the leading exporters of Ferro Alloys for United States in Feb’19.
