Brazil Steel Exports Statistics – Mar’19

Brazil, the world’s second-largest Semi finished exporter, has exported about 789,403 MT Semi finished (Slab & Pig iron) in Mar’19, surge by 38.1% M-o-M, as per custom data maintained by SteelMint.

In the second month of CY19, the crude steel production of Brazil was around 2,661,695 MT and in CY19 (Jan-Feb) it was approximately 5,594,684 MT.

Brazil Iron Ore exports fell by 23% in Mar’19- Nation’s iron ore exports recorded at 22,182,535 MT in Mar’19, down by 23.3% as compared to 28,926,985 MT in Feb’19. China stood largest iron ore importer of Brazilian iron ore at 12,261,367 MT (down 27.23% M-o-M) followed by Malaysia at 2,203,218 MT and Japan at 939,172 MT.

Brazil’s pig iron exports increased by about 66.9% M-o-M in Mar’19 & reported at around 186,938 MT against the last month (Feb’19) at 112,005 MT.

During Mar’19, the most favourable export destination of Brazilian pig iron was – United States (147,622 MT), Netherlands (15,032 MT) & Taiwan (18,789 MT).

In FY19, the Nation’s pig iron exports were recorded at 2,096,975 MT, which was 2,151,391 MT during the period of FY18, decline slightly by 2.52% Y-o-Y, as per SteelMints Stats. Inline on yearly basis, export to Netherlands, Italy & Taiwan decline by 2%, 35% & 20% respectively

Currently global export prices for basic grade Pig iron is assessed at USD 339-341/MT FoB Brazil & USD 359-361/MT FoB India.

Brazil has exported about 602,465 MT slab in Mar’19, inclined by 31.10% M-o-M as against 459,697 MT in Feb’19. Inline on yearly premises it increase by 5.6% as against 570,524 MT in Mar’18.

During Mar’19, United States has imported approximately 74% (444,551 MT) slab, rise sharply by 185% M-o-M against 155,563 MT in Feb’19. Inline, Italy has imported 55,530 MT Slab in the month.

In Mar’19, the major export of Slabs were from the ports of Vitoria (333,196 MT), Fortaleza Porto (157,499 MT) & Itaguai (111,095 MT). While approximately 55% of exports were done from the port of Vitoria in Feb’19.

In the total slab exports during FY19 (Apr-Mar), the most favourable export destination of Brazilian slab was – United States (4,002,896 MT), Dominican Republic (378,575 MT), South Korea (373,274 MT) & Canada (373,219 MT).

The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 445-455/MT FoB India, 150*150 Q235 are at USD 475-485/MT FoB China & 125*125 3sp at USD 445-455/MT FoB Ukraine.

Brazilian Manganese Ore Exports surged up high due to escalated demand from China in Mar’19. Brazilian Manganese Ore exports were significantly up by 41% in Mar’19 on M-o-M basis and rose by 58% as compared to previous year for the same period. Since major market for Brazil is China, the exports went considerably high as the pre-stocked inventories were all used up post the Chinese New Year celebrations.
