As per reports received to SteelMint, China’s Hebei province this year will shut down 40 mines (other than coal mines) and 51 tailings dams. On March 29, the non-coal mine working conference was held in Shi Jiazhuang, the provincial capital of Hebei province.
At the conference, it was decided that there will be 40 mines and tailing ponds to be shut down in Hebei province this year. It requires each concerned authoritative body to carry out works on promoting treatment of goaf ,shutdown of tailing dams and correct steep slopes, and automation so that safe production conditions can be further improved. Efforts need to be made in monitoring tailing dams, particularly in a period of thawing season.
Although it’s impact is yet to be analysed and there are reports indicating that the majority of them were idled mines, but Indian participants are optimistic on Indian iron ore and pellet export sentiments to China to remain supported.
