SECL Expected to Remain Largest Coal Producing Company in FY19

SECL became the first to attain 150 MnT coal output in India
–The company has been setting new milestones in terms of daily coal production.

India-South Eastern coalfields Ltd (SECL) is likely to maintain its status of being the largest coal producer among the 8 coal producing units of CIL.

As per the latest notification provided on the company’s website, SECL has produced 153.40 MnT coal in FY19 till 25 Mar’19, which was 12.85 MnT more than that MCL’s output in the same period.

In the meantime, SECL has also created a new milestone by becoming the first Indian company to produce 150 MnT coal in a fiscal year.

It is pertinent to note that MCL has been the biggest competitor of SECL in terms of coal production; however, its coal business had been affected by labour strikes at its various mines this year.

Moreover, witnessing the past record of SECL’s daily coal output this fiscal, it is safe to say that the company would eventually beat MCL to remain the largest coal producer in FY19.

SECL has been in news for its coal production, where the company has created and destroyed its own record many times in recent weeks.

First, SECL had set new daily coal production record by mining 630,000 MT as on 10 Mar’19, which stood merely for two days when the company produced 637,000 MT coal on 12 Mar’18.

The same record was broken on 18 Mar’19, when the company attained 666,000 MT coal output.

Taking a step further, SECL has now recorded 744,654 MT coal output on 25 Mar’19 to create a new record.

Earlier, SECL had surpassed its previous fiscal’s output of 144 MnT on 10 Mar’19.

Coal India Ltd is envisaged to record higher coal production, aided by a strong performance from its various mining arms in FY19. Recently, NCL had also surpassed its previous year total while becoming just the third company to attain 100 MnT annual coal output.
