Taiwan: Iron Ore Imports Up 7% in Jan’19

Taiwan iron ore imports for the month of Jan’19 recorded at 2.33 MnT. The imports depicted rise of 7% as against 2.18 MnT in Dec’18.

On yearly basis, imports increased marginally against 2.31 MnT in Jan’18.

Taiwan crude steel output up 10% in Jan’19

Taiwan’s crude steel output in Jan’19 witnessed at 2.01 MnT, up 10% as against 1.82 MnT in Jan’18. Taiwan’s Jan’19 output recorded marginal decline on monthly basis against Dec’18 production at 2.05 MnT.

The Non-agglomerated ore (Lump and Fines) imports witnessed 11% rise in Jan’19 imports at 2.04 MnT as against 1.83 MnT in last month. On yearly basis, Jan’19 imports increased 7% compared to 1.9 MnT in Jan’18.

Agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) imports in Jan’19 depicted at 0.29 MnT, down 17% as against 0.35 MnT in Dec’18. On yearly basis, Jan’19 imports recorded 28% drop against 0.4 MnT in Jan’18.

Australian iron ore exports to Taiwan up 12% in Jan’19

Australia continues to be the largest exporter of iron ore to Taiwan in Jan’19 at 1.64 MnT (up 12% M-o-M) accounting for 70% of total Taiwan’s imports share for the month. Brazil stood second largest exporter at 0.55 MnT (up 10% M-o-M) followed by Canada 0.14 MnT (down 33%).
