Richards Bay port has exported 7.2 MnT of coal in October, 2013 which is second highest coal export figure in last 10 months period.
World’s leading coal exporting port, Richards Bay Coal Terminal’s (RBCT) coal export has increased by 30.5% (M-o-M) and it exported 7.2 MnT of Coal in October, 2013. Coal export has increased by 30.7% in comparison to coal exported in same period in previous year.
During the last 10 months, port has exported more than 7 MnT of coal second time while port has exported around 7.5 MnT of coal in March 2013, to the world. RBCT has shipped around 59.6 MnT of coal till October, 2013 which is 4% more from same period last year.
Slowdown in Steel, Power and other industries which resulted in a downfall in coal’s demand globally has led to coal price decline during September, 2013. South African 6000 NAR grade coal were available at USD 72-73/MT on FOB basis.
European and Asian buyers did not let go the opportunity and booked the material at very good prices, which boosted South African coal shipment in October to 7.2 MnT. This sudden movement reduced RBCT port’s coal stock by 17.8% to 4.5 MnT, whereas it received around 800 rakes of coal in October, 2013.
To carry the 7.2 MnT of Coal port has loaded 78 vessels which is maximum number of vessels handled by port in last 22 months. Out of 78 vessels port has loaded 44 Capesize vessel, 20 Panamax vessels and 14 Handysize vessels. Year to date RBCT have shipped 536 vessels including 357 Capesize vessels, 78 Panamax vessels and 101 Handysize vessels.
