As per the recent data released by customs Indian flat steel imports stood at 0.46 MnT in Feb’19 drop by 15% against 0.54 MnT in Jan’19.
Whereas on yearly premises flat steel imports volume rose by 24% to 0.46 MnT in Feb’19 in comparison to 0.37 MnT in Feb’18.
In first two months of Jan-Feb’19 nation’s flat steel import volumes stood around 1 MnT up by 18% against 0.85 MnT in same time frame of previous year.

Indian HRC/Plate import volumes remain stable in Feb’19- Import volumes of HRC/Plate to India remained stable in Feb’19 and in Jan’19.
Meanwhile Galvanized steel imports reduce to half to 0.09 MnT in Feb’19 against 0.18 MnT in the preceding month.
Imports of electrical steel marginally increased by 8% in Feb’19 to 0.14 MnT which was 0.13 MnT in Jan’19.
Meanwhile import volumes of CRC stood at 0.05 MnT remain unchanged for two consecutive months in Jan & Feb’19.
Imports from South Korea remain stable in Feb’19- Flat steel import volumes from South Korea remained stable at 0.23 MnT since last two months.
Import volume from Japan also remained unchanged in Jan & Feb’19 at 0.09 MnT.
Meanwhile imports from China stood at 0.06 MnT in Feb’19 higher by 20% as compared to 0.05 MnT in jan’19
Imports form Russia declined significantly by 75% to 0.01 MnT as compared to 0.04 MnT in Jan’19.
Meanwhile Taiwan and Indonesia also exported flat steel products to India in small quantities.
Flat steel imports at Mumbai port up by 5% in Feb’19- Flat steel imports at Mumbai port stood at 0.20 MnT in Feb’19 as compared to 0.19 MnT in the previous month.
However imports at Chennai port stood at 0.08 MnT in Feb’19 down by 11% against 0.09 MnT in Jan’19.
However imports at JNPT plunged by 75% at 0.03 MnT in Feb’19 against 0.10 MnT in the previous month.
Meanwhile import volumes at Kandla port stood at 0.05 MnT remained stable against the figures of previous month..
Party-Wise Flat Steel Importers in Feb’19- POSCO is the major flat steel importer in Feb’19. Follwed by Hyundai Steel India Pvt Ltd and China Steel Corporation Limited.
