Combined coal production by Indonesian coal miners was 548.58 MnT in CY18; Kontan reported citing Agung Pribadi, head of communication official at the Mines and Energy Ministry as saying on Tuesday.
The number came above 528 MnT announced earlier in Jan’19.
The report said that the latest output figure took into account an additional 20 MnT of coal produced by small miners which have not been included in the report released at that time.
Last year’s total coal production has exceeded government’s target of 485 MnT which was earlier forecast, the report said.
The government has estimated that total coal production would hit 489.12 MnT this year, said Bambang Gatot Ariyono, Director General of Coal and Mines at the Energy ministry in early Feb’19.
Although, market participants feels that rising production target amid slowing demand from China would press the price of Indonesian coal in the global market.
Indonesia’s benchmark coal price continues to decline since September last year, which was last quoted at USD 91.8/MT in Feb’19.
