The tenth largest importer of Iron ore, Turkey has recorded fall in iron ore imports in CY18. The total imports dropped to 10.74 MnT in CY18, as against 10.96 MnT in CY17.
In Dec’18, the total imports witnessed at 1.02 MnT, up 38% as compared 0.74 MnT in Nov’18. On yearly basis, the imports dropped 16% as compared to 1.21 MnT in Dec’17.
Turkey’s crude steel production down marginally in CY’18
Turkey’s crude steel production for CY’18 witnessed at 37.3 MnT, down slightly as against 37.5 MnT in CY17. The crude steel production for Dec’18 is witnessed at 2.9 MnT, down as compared to 3.1 MnT in Nov’18.
The non-agglomerated ore (Lumps and Fines) witnessed 4% rise to 5.99 MnT in CY’18 as against 5.75 MnT in CY’17. On monthly basis imports increased 26% in Dec’18 to 0.54 MnT as against 0.43 MnT in Nov’18.
Agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) recorded 9% fall in CY’18 imports at 4.75 MnT, as against 5.21 MnT in CY17. However, on monthly basis, imports increased 50% in Dec’18 to 0.48 MnT as against Nov’18 imports at 0.32 MnT.
Iron ore imports from Brazil down marginally in CY18
Brazil marked the largest exporter of iron ore to Turkey in CY’18 at 4.63 MnT, contributing 43% of total Turkey’s import. The imports dropped on yearly basis as against 4.66 MnT in CY17. Sweden stood second largest exporter at 1.9 MnT followed by Russia at 1.22 MnT.
