India: SCCL Coal Production Up 4% M-o-M in Jan’19

Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), the coal miner operating in Telangana, has reported coal production of 6.29 MnT in Jan’19.

The company has been progressively increasing its production on the month since Sep’18; consequently output in Jan’19 was the highest recorded in the current fiscal so far.

However, production was down 2% Y-o-Y from 6.39 MnT in Jan’18, noting the decline for only the second time in FY19.

Total production in the first 10 months of FY19 (Apr’18-Jan’19) has increased 7% Y-o-Y to 51.87 MnT, up 7% from 48.38 MnT recorded in the same period of FY18.

SCCL’s Coal Dispatch: Coal dispatch in Jan’19 had rebounded after falling in Dec’18, to mark new highs for FY19.

Dispatch in Jan’19 had increased 4% M-o-M to 6.32 MnT, which was also 3% Y-o-Y from 6.15 MnT in Jan’18.

The volume was boosted by the record number of rakes delivered to supply coal in Jan’19. As per available data, the rake loading totaled 1243 in Jan’19 at an average of 40.1 rakes per day, which was the highest for the current fiscal.

SCCL’s total coal dispatch had increased 5% Y-o-Y to 55.43 MnT in the first 10 months of FY19 (Apr’18-Jan’19) compared with 52.84 MnT in the same period of last fiscal.

Area-wise Coal Production in Jan’19:

Out of the total coal output, 0.83 MnT was procured from Underground mines while the remaining 5.46 MnT coal was procured from the Open Cast projects.

Highest coal production was recorded from Kothagudem area, which had posted almost similar output figures on the month in Jan’19. Ramagundam-II, Manuguru, Yellandu and Ramagundam-III were the other major coal producers.

Out of the 11 mining areas of SCCL, only 2 had noted a fall in monthly output namely- Ramagundam-III and Belampalli.

Highest coal dispatch was also recorded from Kothagudem, where monthly supplies had increased 10% to 1.07 MnT in Jan’19.

Coal Supply to Power Plants:

SCCL’s coal dispatch to NTPC’s power projects increased 10% M-o-M to 1.232 in Jan’19; while supplies to its pit-head power plant STPP was 0.414 MnT, rising 28% M-o-M from 0.324 MnT in Dec’18.
