Iran: Iron Ore Exports Up 13% in Jan’19

According to the data maintained by SteelMint, Iran has exported 1.20 MnT iron ore via bulk shipments in the tenth month of Iranian year (during 22nd Dec- 21st Jan’19). The exports witnessed 13% rise on monthly basis in Jan’19 as against Dec’18 exports at 1.06 MnT.

On yearly basis, the exports have witnessed 25% fall as compared to Jan’18 exports at 1.60 MnT.

For the duration Apr’18-Jan’19, the exports witnessed at 11.57 MnT, down sharply by 29% against 16.4 MnT during same duration last year (Apr’17-Jan’18).

Iron ore pellet exports up significantly in Jan’19

Iran’s pellet export increased to 0.15 MnT in Jan’19, up significantly as against 0.07 MnT in Dec’18. The total exports for Apr-Jan’19 recorded at 0.57 MnT. A major pellet production plant has been launched in Kerman, Iran with production capacity of 2.5 MnT p.a.

Iranian exports to China up 13% M-o-M

China stood the largest and only importer of Iranian iron ore in Jan’19 at 1.20 MnT, up 13% on monthly basis as against 1.06 MnT a month ago.

Iran crude steel production up 18% in CY’18

According to WSA, Iran stood world’s 10th largest steel producer in CY18 with total crude steel output recorded at 25 MnT, up 18% Y-o-Y against 21.2 MnT in CY17.

Iran iron ore concentrate production increased 22% in Apr-Dec’18

As per Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), iron ore production in its recently released production figure for the nine month (Apr 21- Dec 21,2018) is 27.03 MnT.

As per IMIDRO reports, raw iron ore extracted between Apr 21- Dec 21, 2018 is at around 48.58 MnT.

According to Ardeshir Saad Muhammadi, Deputy Director IMIDRO Mining and Mining Industries Development, Iran’s crude steel capacity is likely to be expanded and it currently stands at 32 MnT p.a. Furthermore Iran plans to increase its crude steel capacity to 55 MnT p.a by 2025. Rising crude steel capacities will further escalate iron ore demand in country.
