India: Coal Output slips 3% in June on Y-o-Y basis

Indian coal production slipped again for the second consecutive month as mines produced 3% less coal in June from a year earlier, as heavy operations were hit hard by heavy rains

Against monthly target of 44.7 MnT, India produced 40.4 MnT in June'13, which was only 90% of the requirement and down by 3% Y-o-Y as compared to 41.7 MnT produced in June'12.

Coal India Limited produced 32.5 MnT of coal in June'13 achieving 92% of target of 44.7 MnT and down by 2% Y-o-Y as compared to 33 MnT in June'12.

SCCL production was hit badly as it produced 3.4 MnT in June'13 achieving only 86% of June's target of 4 MnT. SCCL also posted 17% Y-o-Y dip as compared to June'12.

Other coal miners cumulatively produced 4.3 MnT in June'13 achieving 81% of target set at 5.4 MnT. However, their production remained flat as compared to June 2012
