India Coking Coal Import Up 32% M-o-M in Dec’18, Highest Ever

Indian metallurgical coal imports have surged by a whopping 32.28% to 5.71 million tonnes (MnT) in Dec’18, as compared to 4.32 MnT in Nov’18, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

Moreover, on a year-on-year basis, the Dec’18 imports have risen by 10.46% against 5.17 MnT of imports recorded in Nov’17.

On a year-to-date basis, India’s coking coal imports have totaled 53.02 MnT in CY 2018, up by 3.32% from 51.32 MnT of coking coal imports in CY 2017.

Country Wise India Coking Coal Import in Dec’18:

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that the major proportion of the Indian coking coal import shipments continued to be originated from Australia, constituting the highest share of around 70%.

Also, Indian met coal imports from Australia rose by 9.61% to 3.98 MnT in Dec’18, against 3.63 MnT in Nov’18.

Following Australia, the imports from Indonesia and Mozambique accounted for 9% and 6% shares respectively.

Notably, Indian coking coal imports from USA surged by 53.63% to 0.30 MnT in Dec’18, against 0.19 MnT in Nov’18.
