Billet imports to Turkey reported an incline of 111% in the month of Nov’18, the trade statistics released by the Turkey custom reported.
The key attributes shows billet imports incline with increased domestic demand, weakening of Turkish lira against the USD amid fall in global prices.
As per the customs, the nation has imported about 314,314 MT Billet in November 2018 against 148,906 MT in October 2018, rise by 111.08% on monthly premises. While on yearly basis, billet imports plunged by 30% & stood at 449,660 MT in November 2017.
In the month of November 2018,Turkey’s monthly crude steel production decline by 7.36% & stood at 3,140,796 MT and in October it was approximately 3,164,250 MT. Meanwhile, in CY18 (Jan-Nov) the figure of crude steel production stood at 34,255,004 MT, & 37,331,377 MT in CY17.
Billet Imports from Russia incline
Russia stands out to be the largest billet exporter to Turkey, exporting 158,016 MT in Nov’18, followed by Brazil (95,940 MT) & Ukraine (47,040 MT).
Further in the month of Nov’18, the billet exports by Russia to Turkey rise by around 73% on monthly basis against 91,275 MT in Oct’18. Inline, imports from Ukraine rise sharply by 163% M-o-M. And it was also learned that Billet imports from Brazil increased to 95,940 MT, which remains nil from last three months.
During Jan-Nov’18, Russia has exported approximately 49.59% billet (2,124,680 MT) to the nation, followed by Ukraine (847,898 MT) & Brazil (547,666 MT). Prior to this in the same preceding last year, Russia’s billet export to the nation was around 1,588,777 MT, surge almost 33.73% on yearly basis.
In CY 2018 (Jan-Nov) the Turkey’s billet import was around 4,284,219 MT & 4,195,278 MT in CY17 (Jan-Nov).

— Turkey’s iron ore imports recorded at 744,227 MT in Nov’18, down by 39.32% M-o-M as against 1,226,518 MT in Oct’18.
