Iran: Iron Ore Exports Down 19% M-o-M in Dec’18

According to the data maintained by SteelMint, Iran has exported 1.07 MnT iron ore via bulk shipments in the ninth month of Iranian year (during 22rd Oct- 21st Dec’18). The exports witnessed 19% drop on monthly basis in Dec’18 as against Nov’18 exports at 1.32 MnT.

On yearly basis, the exports have witnessed 20% fall as compared to Dec’17 exports at 1.33 MnT.

For the duration Apr-Dec’18, the exports witnessed at 10.38 MnT, down sharply by 30% against 14.8 MnT during same duration last year (Apr-Dec’17). Iranian exports for CY18 witnessed at 16.22 MnT.

Iranian exports to China down 16% M-o-M

China stood the largest and only importer of Iranian iron ore in Dec’18 at 1.07 MnT, down 16% on monthly basis as against 1.27 MnT a month ago.

As per data maintained with SteelMint, China stood the largest importer of Iranian iron ore in CY18 at 15.46 MnT contributing 95% of total Iranian export share, followed by India at 0.26 MnT and Malaysia at 0.13 MnT.

Iran crude steel production up 17% in Jan-Nov’18

According to WSA, Iran’s crude steel output for the duration Jan-Nov’18 witnessed at 22.53 MnT. Production was up by 17% Y-o-Y against 19.28 MnT produced during the same period of CY’17. In Nov’18, Iran produced 2.00 MnT of crude steel, registered a growth of 3% Y-o-Y against 1.95 MnT produced in Nov’17.

Iran iron ore concentrate production increased 19% in Apr-Nov’18

As per IMIDRO, Iran’s iron ore concentrate production for Apr-Nov’18 increased 19% to 29.64 MnT.

According to Ardeshir Saad Muhammadi, Deputy Director IMIDRO Mining and Mining Industries Development, Iran’s crude steel capacity is likely to be expanded to 38 MnT p.a. by end of this year; it currently stands at 32 MnT p.a. Furthermore Iran plans to increase its crude steel capacity to 55 MnT p.a by 2025. Rising crude steel capacities will further escalate iron ore demand in country.
