The Government has given its views on the tax issue on mineral and iron ore. Finance Minster, Pranab Mukherjee has said that there has been no proposal to impose windfall tax on mineral ore exports.
Earlier in a bid to discourage Iron ore exports to conserve the resource for local use, the Government raised duty on Iron ore. It raised duty on Iron ore lumps to 15% from 10% in April and levied 5% tax on Iron ore fines last December.
The Government has decided that conservation of Iron ore resources of the country is of prime importance and the same may be achieved by taking appropriate measures said Junior Steel Minister, A.Sai Prathap.
