Canada: Iron Ore Exports Down 25% in Oct’18

Trade statistics released by Canada custom shows that the iron ore exports by the country recorded at 5.1 MnT in Oct’18. The exports depicted fall of 25% as compared to Sep’18 exports at 6.8 MnT. On yearly basis exports witnessed 53% rise as against 3.33 MnT in Oct’17.

For the duration Jan-Oct’18, Canadian exports marked at 38.78 MnT, up 17% as compared to 33.2 MnT last year for the same duration.

The non-agglomerated ore (Lumps and Fines) depicted 22% decrease on monthly basis to 4.03 MnT in Oct’18 as against 5.17 MnT in Sep’18. However, Y-o-Y exports witnessed 71% rise as against Oct’17 exports at 2.36 MnT.

Agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) exports in Oct’18 witnessed at 1.08 MnT, down 33% M-o-M as compared to Sep’18 exports at 1.62 MnT. However, on yearly basis, exports depicted 11% rise as against Oct’17 exports at 0.97 MnT.

Iron ore exports to China down 27% M-o-M

China and Netherland marked the largest imports of Canadian iron ore in Oct’18 at 1.02 MnT each. China’s import dropped 27% in Oct’18 as against as against 1.4 MnT in Sep’18.

Canadian exports to UK increased significantly to 0.48 MnT in Oct’18 as against being 0.04 MnT a month ago. Japan and France depicted sharp decline in imports for the month at 0.42 and 0.41 MnT respectively.
