Turkey: Coal Imports Down 2% M-o-M in Oct’18

Turkey’s coal imports have fallen 2% on the month to 4.08 MnT in Oct’18, which was also 4% lower on the year from 4.27 MnT in Oct’17.

Despite the slight drop in monthly basis, the country has maintained a decent level of coal imports during Oct’18 in comparison to the drastic slump seen in Aug’18.

Besides, total imports during the first 10-months of CY18 (Jan’18-Oct’18) has grew 3% Y-o-Y to 36.66 MnT compared with 35.46 MnT recorded in the same period last year.

Grade-wise Coal Imports:
Turkish imports of non-coking coal had witness the lone growth on the monthly basis, rising 4% M-o-M to 3.02 MnT during Oct’18.

Coking coal imports decreased 8% M-o-M to 0.59 MnT, Pet coke imports were down 21% M-o-M to 0.37 MnT in Oct’18.

Anthracite and Met coke imports were marked at 0.06 MnT and 0.04 MnT respectively in Oct’18.

Major Coal Exporters:
Colombia emerged as the largest coal supplier to Turkey following a hefty fall in Russian coal supplies during Oct’18.

Colombian coal exports rose 13% on the month to 1.59 MnT in Oct’18, which was also 5% higher on the year from 1.52 MnT in Oct’17.

Russian coal exports dropped 34% M-o-M to 1.06 MnT in Oct’18, also moving down 32% Y-o-Y compared with 1.55 MnT in Oct’17.

US was the third largest coal supplier during the month, with exports of 0.53 MnT in Oct’18.

South Korea (0.5 MnT), Australia (0.32 MnT) and Iran (0.05 MnT) were the other major coal suppliers to Turkey in Oct’18.
