Chi Jingdong, vice president of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), said that the task of de-capacity in China’s steel industry was basically completed, and the level of energy saving and consumption reduction was improved.
According to Chi Jingdong, the national steel industry has clearly shown a steady and good trend. From January to October this year, the national production of pig iron and crude steel was 645 million tons and 782 million tons, respectively, up 1.7% and 6.4% year-on-year. The profit levels have improved markedly, achieving the goal in a stable way, and reporting the record high profits in the past 20 years.
Chi Jingdong: Since 2016, the steel industry has dissolved the steel production capacity of nearly 150 million tons, and completely banned 140 million tons of “Ditiaogang”-low quality steel made of scrap steel, which has greatly solved the problems of high energy consumption, low level of environmental protection and outdated production capacity, laying the foundation towards green development.
At the same time of completing the task of de-capacity, the national steel industry has promoted a large number of new energy-saving technologies and new facilities, which have reduced energy consumption, optimized and upgraded the steel process technology as well as improved the level of energy saving and consumption reduction.
Chi Jingdong says the level of technological equipment and process technology of major steel enterprises in China have reached the advanced standard, and the unit energy consumption level also reached the world’s advanced level. From January to October, the energy consumption of key steel enterprises, with a 4.9% increase in crude steel output, achieved a year-on-year decrease of 0.9%.
