According to latest customs data, USA flat steel imports which includes (7208 HR coils/Plates,7209 CR coils,7210,7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets) imports stood at 2.73 MnT in Q3CY18 drop by 9% against 3 MnT in previous quarter.
Meanwhile on yearly basis nation’s flat steel imports fell by 5% to 0.91 MnT in Sep’18 compared to 0.86 MnT in previous year.
During first nine month of CY18 (Jan-Sep) nation has imported 8.46 MnT of flat steel decline by 7% as compare to 9.11 MnT in same time frame of previous year.
Post imposition of Section 232 by President Donald Trump on steel imports by 25% on steel leads to decline in nation’s flat steel import volumes.Thus nation’s major exporting nations are looking for new steel consuming markets to export huge quantities of their produce.
However on monthly basis,flat steel imports surge by 6% M-o-M to 0.91 MnT in Sep’18 as compared to 1.04 MnT in Aug’18.However in Sep’18 USA has exempted Korea,Canada,Mexico ,Brazil, Argentina, South Korea and Australia were granted exemptions from the duties, with shipments from Brazil, Argentina and South Korea subject to annual quotas that restrict quarterly volumes to one-fourth of their respective yearly totals.

Country-Wise USA flat steel imports in Q3CY18 – Canada was the largest flat steel exporter and has exported 0.82 MnT in Q3CY18. Second largest exporter was South Korea which stood at 0.36 MnT in third quarter of CY18 followed by Mexico and Vietnam at 0.2 MnT in Q3CY18.
Other major flat steel exporters are Germany ,Turkey Netherlands and Taiwan in Q3CY18.

However on monthly basis the same drop by 11% in Sep’18 as compared to 0.37 MnT in previous month.Meanwhile Mexico and Canada were the two largest exporter of USA in Q3CY18.
