Czech Republic – one of the major scrap exporters among Eu-28 witnessed a considerable fall in scrap exports in Q3’CY18 as against Q2’CY18. As per recent customs data, Czech Republic exported 485,885 MT ferrous scrap during Q3’CY18, down 15% Q-o-Q as against 568,992 MT ferrous scrap in Q2’CY18. On the other hand, exports declined marginally by 4% Y-o-Y in Q3’CY18 as against 504,261 MT during Q3’CY17.
Ferrous scrap exports stable, finish long exports up 10% in Sept’18 – Czech Republic witnessed stability in scrap exports on a monthly basis. The country exported 160,719 MT ferrous scrap in Sept’18 as against 162,184 MT in Aug’18. On yearly premises, scrap exports declined by 14% Y-o-Y as against 186,197 MT ferrous scrap recorded in Sept’17. Notably, the country observed stability in scrap exports successively since last 3 months.
Country’s finish steel long exports increased 10% M-o-M to 156,987 MT in Sept’18. Rise in crude steel production and steady scrap exports could have resulted increased finish steel exports while it observed fall in finish flat imports by 6% M-o-M to 319,086 MT in Sept’18.

Germany remained the largest importer in Sept’18 – Germany remained largest importer occupying highest 48% share (77,772 MT, stable M-o-M) in total scrap exports in Sept’18. Followed by other major importers like Italy (35,059 MT, +18% M-o-M), Poland (26,341 MT), Slovakia (10,710 MT) and Austria (9,154 MT) witnessing almost stable imports in Sept’18.
Czech Republic’s scrap exports down during Jan-Sept’18 – Czech Republic exported 1,581,925 MT ferrous scrap during Jan-Sept’18 witnessing stability as against 1,563,797 MT during the same period last year. The country produced 4.14 MnT crude steel during Jan-Oct’18, up 8% as compared to 3.83 MnT crude steel produced same period last year.
Czech Republic is world’s 20th largest steel importer with around 7 MnT imports recorded in 2017. Largest steel producer ArcelorMittal Ostrava followed by Trinecke Zelezarny, Vitkovice Steel, ZDB Dratovna are majorly based in the Moravian region of the country.
