Australia – world’s largest iron ore exporter has recorded 5% decline in export shipments for the month of Oct’18.
According to the vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint, Australia’s iron ore export shipments recorded at 67.80 MnT, down 5% on monthly basis as compared to 71.65 MnT in Sept’18.
On yearly basis, the Oct’18 exports recorded similar decline of 5% against 71.43 MnT in Oct’17.
In CY’18 (Jan-Oct’18) Australia’s iron ore export shipments witnessed marginal rise to 708.17 MnT compared to 691.04 MnT in the same period last year.
Average global iron ore fines prices increased 7% M-o-M
Monthly average global iron ore fines (Fe 62%) prices in Oct’18 recorded at USD 73/MT, CFR China, up by 7% on monthly basis as against Sep’18 price at USD 68/MT, CFR China.
Australian exports to India drops 53% in Oct’18
China marked the largest importer of Australian iron ore at 54.94 MnT, contributing 81% of total Australian exports for the month, down 7% against 59.07 MnT a month before.
Japan stood the second largest importer at 5.45 MnT (up 10% M-o-M), followed by Korea at 4.73 MnT (up 19% M-o-M).
India witnessed 53% fall in imports at 0.28 MnT, against 0.60 MnT in Sep’18. JSW Steel stood the largest Indian importer of Australian Iron ore for the month at 0.19 MnT.
Australian iron ore exports to Malaysia recorded highest ever at 0.51 MnT, up more than three folds on monthly basis.

Port Headland iron ore export down 11% in Oct’18
In Oct’18, port Headland marked largest exporter at 39.11 MnT, down 11% on monthly basis against 44.11 MnT in Sep’18, followed by Walcott at 15.67 MnT (up 6% M-o-M) and Dampier at 12.06 MnT (up 3% on monthly basis).
