India Met Coke Import Up 42% M-o-M in Oct’18 and highest in CY 2018

Indian metallurgical coke imports have recorded a stupendous growth of 42.33% to 0.57 million tonnes (MnT) in Oct’18, as compared to 0.40 MnT in Sep’18, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

Moreover, on a year-on-year basis, the Oct’18 imports have increased by 12.63% from 0.51 MnT in Oct’17.

Furthermore, on a year-to-date basis, India’s met coke imports have totaled 4.21 MnT in the first ten months of the year, during Jan’18-Oct’18, up 23.81% compared with 3.40 MnT of met coke imports in the corresponding period of the previous year, Jan’17-Oct’17.

Country Wise India Met Coke Import in Oct’18:

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that the major proportion of the shipments continued to be originated from China, accounting for 60% share.

Also, Indian met coke imports from China rose by over 130% M-o-M to 0.34 MnT in Oct’18, against 0.15 MnT in Sep’18.

Following China, Japan accounted for 16% share of the Indian met coke imports in Oct’18.

Poland constituted 12% share of the Indian met coke imports in Oct’18. However, Indian met coke imports from Poland fell marginally in Aug’18.

USA, Egypt and South Africa were the other major met coke exporters to India in Oct’18.
