JSW Steel profit dips 2% on sharp rise in input costs

Rrise in raw material cost have lowered the net profits for JSW in the second quarter of this fiscal. Net profit was down by 2 per cent to Rs 445 crore (Rs 452 crore) while sales grew 25 per cent to Rs 5,713 crore (Rs 4,554 crore).

 

Flat steel sales rose 40 per cent to 1.21 million tonnes (mt) while that of long products grew 57 per cent to 0.28 mt. Mr Seshagiri Rao, Joint Managing Director, said the company had managed to minimise the impact of cost pressure by rolling out higher value-added products which were in demand from the automobile and consumer durable sectors.
