India’s state-run miner NMDC resumed full transportation of iron ore from central Chhattisgarh state on Tuesday, after a strike called by Maoist rebels ended, a senior company official said on Wednesday.
“The iron ore shipment from Bailadila hills facilities has resumed to its full capacity after being hit by a Maoist shutdown,”
Iron ore transportation from Bailadila in Dantewada district, where NMDC has five mines, was hit from Dec. 2 as the railway stopped services in the night in a preventive move fearing attacks on its facilities.
The source at NMDC said since the start of the strike, NMDC had to cut down its transport of iron ore to about 36,000 tonnes a day against the normal dispatches of 56,000 tonnes a day.
NMDC, India’s top miner, produced around 24 million tonnes of iron ore in 2009/10 ended in March, compared with 28.52 million tonnes of iron ore in the previous year, mostly for domestic steel makers, a company spokesman said on Wednesday.
