South Africa pig iron exports decline by around 9,000 MT (14.82%) M-o-M in August 2018 & noticed a continuous fall after recorded the highest volume of exports in June 2018.
The nation has exported about 53,115 MT pig iron during Aug’18 against 62,363 MT in Jul’17. US remains the largest importer; however in the month of Aug’18, US imports from the nation decline by 53% & stood at 8,561 MT as against 18,049 MT in Jul’18. While in August Italy topped the list & recorded 15,508 MT Pig iron imports from South Africa.
Coming to total exports in CY 2018 (Jan-Aug), South Africa has exported about 371,876 MT Pig iron; surge by around 24.57% as compared to 298,523 MT in the same preceding last year. While, on yearly basis in May’18, exports of Pig iron from the nation incline by 6.62% against 49,817 MT in Aug’17.
Further in CY18 (Jan-Aug), the major buyers of South African Pig iron was – United States (107,345 MT), Netherlands (43,733 MT) and Italy (38,514 MT).
In the month of Aug 2018, the crude steel production of South Africa decline by 1.30% to 528,100 MT against 535,000 MT in Jul’18 and in CY18 (Jan-Aug) it was approximately 4,260,000 MT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 6,301,800 MT, & 6,139,300 MT in CY16.
Market Updates
— As per SteelMint Stats, it was noticed that in Aug’18, India & Bangladesh imported 4,355 MT & 2,143 MT pig iron from South Africa.
— South African coal export has incline 29.46% M-o-M to 6,601,237 MT in Aug’18 against 5,098,819 MT in Jul’18. South African RB2 (5500 NAR) coal offers are assessed at USD 75/MT on FoB basis & USD 90/MT CNF India.
— South African Iron ore exports rise by 17.88% & stood at 5,627,557 MT in Aug’18 as against 4,773,685 MT in Jul’18. Presently, export offers of iron ore lumps, Fe 64%, South Africa are at USD 93/MT CNF India.
— The global export offers of steel grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 363-375/MT FoB Brazil & USD 380-390/MT FoB India.
