According to latest customs data released, Japan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates),7209 (CR coils),7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) 2.15 MnT in Aug’18 against Jul’18.
In Aug’18 nation exported 2.15 MnT flat steel witness a growth of 6% on monthly premise against 2.02 MnT in preceding month.
As per JISF (Japan Iron & Steel Federation) official, Japanese integrated mills are lifting their exports to Thailand as the Thai economy is growing. Thus nation’s exports to Thailand witnessed surge of 9% to 0.35 MnT in Aug’18.
Also as per Japan Ship Exporters Association data, Japanese shipbuilders received increased volume of exports orders in Aug’18.
As per reports, Japanese shipbuilders were currently receiving more inquiries from overseas customers. Although customers are also comparing quotes from shipbuilders in South Korea, but they would be attracted to Japanese technologies to correspond to new regulations, and order Japanese vessels.
Similarly on yearly basis nation’s flat steel export volumes edge down by 3% against 2.21 MnT in Aug’17.
During first eight months of Jan-Aug18, nation’s flat steel exports stood at 16.62 MnT fell by 3% which was 17.08 MnT in same time frame of previous year.

Country-wise Japan flat steel exports in Aug’18- China remained the largest flat steel importer of Japan and procured 0.38 MnT in Aug’18 surged by 15% against 0.33 MnT in Jun’18.
Second largest importer was Thailand at 0.38 MnT in Aug’18 higher by 9% as compared to 0.35 MnT in previous month.
Third largest importer was South Korea at 0.26 MnT,in Aug’18 move up by 13% against 0.23 MnT a month ago.
Other major importers were Vietnam at 0.17 MnT ,Indonesia at 0.14 MnT followed by Mexico at 0.13 MnT, Malaysia at 0.10 MnT and India at 0.09 MnT in Aug’18.
