India: PK Rath Appointed as New CMD of Vizag Steel

Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on 21st September (Friday) approved the proposal of Ministry of Steel for the appointment of Mr. Pradosh Kumar Rath as the new Chairman and Managing Director of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (also known as Vizag Steel).

Prior to this, Mr. Rath was serving as Director (Operations) at RINL since 10 Oct’2017, after his elevation from Executive Director (Works).

Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) which selects candidates for senior positions at public sector units had already shortlisted and recommended his name for the top job at RINL in the last week of March 2018. Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) had also given approval to his name for the post.

Mr. Rath will replace Mr. P Raychaudhury Director (Commercial) RINL, who was given additional charges for the post of CMD of state-owned steel company on 1st June’18, discharging formal CMD of RINL Mr. P Madhusudan.

A few days ago, the Minister of Steel had extended the term of Mr. Raychaudhury as CMD (in charge) for next three months (starting from September 1) till a regular incumbent joins or until further orders, whichever is earliest.

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (a Navaratna PSE) is a corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant under the Ministry of Steel. It is based in the southern part of Visakhapatnam city, Andhra Pradesh state of India. It is the first shore-based Integrated Steel Plant of the country and recently it has increased its capacity to 7.3 MTPA.
