Japan’s billet exports recorded an incline of around 25,000 MT (Y-o-Y) in the seventh month of 2018, as per the country’s custom.
In July 2018, the nation’s billet exports were recorded at 322,220 MT, surge by around 8.58% Y-o-Y against 296,736 MT in July 2017.
During July’18, exports to Taiwan rise by 6% Y-o-Y to 154,926 MT. Inline, Billet exports to Thailand increased sharply by 156% Y-o-Y & stood at 50,727 MT in July’18.
In the duration of Jan-Jul’18, Japan has exported about 2,256,424 MT billet, incline slightly as against 2,252,596 MT during the same period in 2017. In CY17, the country’s billet export was around 3,995,981 MT & in CY16 it stood at 4,256,577 MT.
Taiwan remains the largest importer of Japanese Billet in Jan-Jul’18, as the nation contribute around 44.53% (1,004,815 MT), followed by South Korea (26.74%), Thailand (13.13%), Philippines (5.66%) & US (4.10%).
Further in the month of July 2018, the crude steel production of Japan fell by 3.88% to 8,419,670 MT as against 8,759,783 MT in Jun’18 and in CY18 (Jan-Jul) it was approximately 61,403,830 MT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 104,656,927 MT, & 104,770,414 MT in CY16 .

— During Jan-Jul’18, Japan imported around 59.74% of iron ore from Australia, which was around 43,103,435 MT. Meanwhile the import of iron ore in the same preceding last year stood at 43,469,596 MT. Current offer of Fe 62% Fines (Australia) are at USD 68/MT CNF China.
— As per recent customs data, Japan exported 594,674 MT ferrous scrap in Jul’18 witnessing a fall of 14% Y-o-Y on falling Chinese purchase, against 690,040 MT in its scrap exports in Jul’17.
— Japanese H2 grade ferrous scrap export price assessment is at Yen 34,750/MT FOB Japan
— The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 490-500/MT FoB India & 125*125 3sp at USD 475-480/MT FoB Ukraine.
