Japan, the world’s 3rd largest steel producer has reported decline in its monthly long steel imports in the month of Jul’18.
As per the customs, the nation has imported about 42,328 MT Finish Long steel in July 2018 decreased by 18.31% against 51,819 MT in June 2018. However on Y-o-Y, imports enlarged by around 15.2% against 36,743 MT in July’17.
Under Finish Long steel commodities following HS codes has been considered – Bar & Rod (HS code 7213 & 7214), MS Wire (HS code 7217) along with Angle & Shapes (HS code 7215 & 7216).
Bar’s & Rods have contributed the major imports proportionate and registered at 17,160 MT (-36%) followed by Wire Rod 16,266 MT (+13%) and remaining was Structure (Angle and Shapes) 8,902 MT (-17%)

In the month of July 2018, the largest exporter of Finish Long Steel to Japan was South Korea – 19,820 MT, China – 17,756 MT & Vietnam at 1,275 MT.

— Japan exported about 2.02 MnT Flat Steel in Jul’18 in which China stood the largest flat steel importer of Japan and procured 0.33 MnT.
— According to Japan’s Ministry of Finance trade statistics, the country’s Graphite electrode exports during July was at 6,366 tonnes, a fall of 4.1% Y-o-Y. Although its export prices have risen by 3.9 times to 1,110,000 yen per tonne (USD 9,954/MT) rising for 13 months consecutively.
