Taiwan Billet Imports Decline in Jun’18

Taiwan’s billet import plunged by 33% M-o-M in Jun’18, country’s custom data reported.

The nation has imported about 0.22 MnT Billet in the month of Jun’18 against 0.33 MnT in May’18, decline by 33.33% M-o-M. Prior to this, the billet imports rise by 17.85% M-o-M in May’18. While, on yearly basis in Jun’18 imports rise by 46.67% against 0.15 MnT in Jun’17.

Further in the month of Jun’18, no major Billet imports were recorded from Iran, United Arab Emirates, China & India to Taiwan. Billet imports from Russia also decline by 75% M-o-M & stood at 0.02 MnT in Jun’18.

Considering calender year 2018 (Jan-Jun), the imports fall by 1.79% to 1.64 MnT against same preceding CY17 at 1.67 MnT.

Japan remained in the top list of billet imports (Jan-Jun) in Taiwan with an contribution of about 0.87 MnT (53.03%); followed by Russia 0.34 MnT (20.85%), United Arab Emirates 0.11 MnT (6.51%) & Iran 0.10 MnT (6.33%).

As per the SteelMint’s assessment in CY18 (Jan-Jun), the crude steel production of Taiwan was around 10.81 MnT, and in CY17 in the same duration it stood at 11.16 MnT.

 Taiwan scrap import prices remain weak. Price assessment for US origin HMS (80:20) stood at USD 321/MT CNF.

 Last assessment of global billet export offer are hovering at USD 535-540/MT FoB China & USD 465-475/MT FoB Ukraine.
