USA, the world’s largest scrap exporter has diminish its Finish long steel imports in first half (H1) of CY18 against the same period of CY17.
As per the customs, the nation has imported about 2.04 MnT Finish Long steel in H1 CY18, down by around 26.61% against 2.78 MnT in H1 CY17.
Similarly, on monthly comparison the Finish long steel imports down by 50% to 0.22 MnT in Jun’18 as compared to 0.44 MnT in May’18 & On yearly premises 60% down has been observed against 0.55 MnT in Jun’17.
Steel imports in the USA on down trend since the nation has imposed import tariffs by 25% on steel & 10% on aluminium during Mar’18. Industry believed, finished steel imports in the USA to remain poise with the hard import barriers by the nation’s Trump government.
Under Finish Long commodities following HS Codes has been considered – Bar & Rod (HS Code 7213 & 7214), MS Wire (HS Code 7217) along with Angle & Shapes (HS Code 7215 & 7216).
Bar’s & Rods have contributed the major import proportionate during H1 CY18 and registered at 1.24 MnT (-34%) followed by Structure (Angle and Shapes) 0.51 MnT (-15%) and remaining Wire Rod 0.3 MnT (-6%). The changes are mentioned are compared to H1 CY17.

During H1 CY18, the largest exporter of Finish Long Steel to the USA by Canada – 0.42 MnT (-7%), Turkey – 0.27 MnT (-67%) & Brazil stood at 0.14 MnT (+17%). The changes are mentioned are compared to H1 CY17.
