South Africa pig iron exports surge by around 30,500 MT (105%) in June’18 against last month & recorded six month high , according to the customs.
The nation has exported about 77,017 MT pig iron during Jun’18 against 37,473 MT in May’18, surge by 105.50% M-o-M. In the month imports from Portugal rise sharply & stood at 29,570 MT. Inline United States second topped the list with 17,772 MT of imports from the nation.
Coming to total exports in CY18 (Jan-Jun) it has been registered at 256,398 MT, rise by 13.54% on yearly premises against 225,803 MT in the same period during 2017.
In the month of June 2018, the crude steel production of South Africa was around 547,500 MT and in CY18 (Jan-Jun) it was approximately 3,196,900 MT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 6,301,800 MT, & 6,139,300 MT in CY16.

— In Jun’18, India remains the largest importer of ferrous scrap from South Africa with 24,533 MT. While, Pakistan & Bangladesh imported around 10,055 MT & 5,305 MT in the month
— The global export offers of steel grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 375-380/MT FoB Brazil & USD 375-385/MT FoB India.
— Presently, export offers of iron ore lumps, Fe 64%, South Africa are at USD 93/MT CNF India.
— South Africa Iron Ore Exports to India declined 79% M-o-M & stood at 111,058 MT in Jun’18 as against 535,479 MT in May’18.
— South African RB2 (5500 NAR) coal offers are assessed at USD 86/MT on FoB basis & USD 100/MT CNF India.
