United States: Iron Ore Imports Up 28% in June’18

United States, recorded iron ore imports at 0.32 MnT in June’18 as against 0.25 MnT in May’18. The imports witnessed rise of 28% M-o-M. However, on yearly basis, imports recorded decline of 24% as against June’17 imports at 0.42 MnT.

For the quarter ending June’18, iron ore imports witnessed at 0.95 MnT in Q2 CY’18. The imports witnessed decline of 26% as against 1.28 MnT in last quarter. On yearly basis, the imports witnessed 44% drop as against 1.7 MnT in Q2 CY’17.

In June’18, United States crude steel output decreased by 6% to 6.85 MnT in June’18 against 7.26 MnT in May’18.On yearly basis, the output stood stable compared to 6.79 MnT of production in June’17.

The non-agglomerated (fines/lump) iron ore imports in June’18 witnessed at 0.14 MnT, down 26% M-o-M as against May’18 imports at 0.19 MnT. On yearly basis, imports stood 48% down compared to June’17 imports at 0.27 MnT.

Agglomerated (pellets/concentrate) imports recorded at 0.18 MnT in June’18, up by three folds M-o-M as against 0.06 MnT in May’18. The agglomerated ore imports in June’18 stood 29% up on yearly basis as against 0.14 MnT in June’17.

Brazil marked the largest iron ore exporter to United States

Brazil stood the largest iron ore exporter to United States in the month of June’18 with total quantity of 0.19 MnT, (down 17% on monthly basis) contributing 59% share of total US import, followed by Canada at 0.06 MnT (up twice M-o-M) and Australia at 0.04 MnT.

For the quarter Q2 CY’18, Brazil contributed maximum share of US imports at 0.56 MnT (down 29% on quarterly basis), followed by Canada at 0.2 MnT (up 33% Q-o-Q).
